For the project and social media campaign “#FACTSMATTER. Defend Truth, Defeat Distortion” ENMA Member Organisations illuminate and raise awareness of contemporary forms of Holocaust denial and distortion. The project aims to coherently record, educate, and enhance visibility for incidents of Holocaust denial and distortion, as well as their victims.
Holocaust denial and distortion persist as a dangerous constant in antisemitic incidents, frequently encountered by ENMA members and underscoring the need for transnational monitoring. Using a monitoring guideline based on the IHRA Working Definition of Holocaust Denial and Distortion, ENMA members systematically monitor and document Holocaust denial and distortion incidents. This guideline, along with continuous use of database software, ensures crucial cross-border comparability and cohesion.
The collected data will indicate which forms of Holocaust denial and distortion in Europe transcend country borders, which are country specific, and where spillover effects are detectable. This will help establish an informative foundation for educators, practitioners, and researchers.
Public events will create a platform for cross-border exchange on contemporary forms of Holocaust distortion and victims’ perspectives on the phenomenon. Each event will provide insights into the most prevalent forms of Holocaust distortion in ENMA member countries, with the aim of raising knowledge and awareness, and empowering Jewish communities to confront distortion. Workshops with European law enforcement agencies will also be conducted, thus enhancing their capacity to address this issue.
The project is accompanied by a social media campaign that aims to promote sensitivity towards Holocaust denial and distortion and combat misinformation. By using reported incidents from ENMA members, we will address common misconceptions surrounding the Holocaust and deconstruct Holocaust denial and distortion strategies.
Additionally, our social media campaign will provide foundational information dedicated to combating Holocaust denial and distortion, such as key Holocaust remembrance dates.
